Save Our Sets is a nonpartisan advocacy group dedicated to creating a pro-consumer transition from analog to digital television.
Save our Sets is concerned that millions of Americans will lose access to television on Feb 17, 2009 absent substantive improvements in how current federal law implements the transition.
Save our Sets believes the transition to digital television is a positive development for America, but that it should be carried out with minimal negative repercussions for America's households and without millions of Americans unnecessarily losing the benefit of the billions of dollars they have invested in their analog television sets.
Our Statement of Principle:
- To secure the public safety and national security goals of our country,
- and provide the economic benefits of the digital age to the nation's broadcasting companies,
- and ensure that Americans do not lose the ability to use their existing analog television sets,
- and to save those sets from premature dumping in the nation's landfills.
The investment and obligations that multi-channel video providers will need to undertake in order to participate in the S.O.S DTV transition plan is a fair and balanced trade-off for the limitations on the rights of broadcasters to charge for free-over-the-air television.
